2009 Race Recap

Thanksgiving Day's Blue Talon Bistro Turkey Trot saw over 1,200 runners take off at 8:30 on a charity 5K and youth 1 Mile that benefits the Williamsburg Area Meals on Wheels. This year the race spotlighted Blue Talon Bistro's role as a sponsor of WAVY 10's "Coats for Kids" program, collecting well over 100 coats in one morning.

The race left Colonial Williamsburg's Merchant Square and ended in front of the Blue Talon on Prince George Street. Participants ran through historic downtown Williamsburg as well as The College of William & Mary. The overall winner was Edward Moran who is a Williamsburg resident and an alumnus of William & Mary, 2007 Gold Medal Pan-American Games Winner in the 5,000 meter event and 4th in the 10,000 meter event at the 2008 Olympic Trials. Edward finished the race in an amazing 14:34. Topping the women’s field was local favorite Jennifer Quarles in a time of 18:50. With runners from 36 states in attendance and multiple family generations enjoying the races and festivities, this race has certainly become a holiday tradition.

Today the runners experienced ideal weather conditions with plenty of sunshine, calm winds and temperatures in the low 50’s. An outstanding post race raffle of gourmet food & beverage items helped push the total for funds raised over $35,000. Chef/Owner David Everett said, "We've doubled our participation every year and we couldn't be happier about it. The awesome donations from all of our friends in the restaurant industry as well as our neighbors in Merchant Square helped us put on what has to be the best raffle of its kind. The numbers of runners and their outstanding generosity all prove what a great community we live in."
